At Oban Angling Adventures, both yours and our safety is of utmost importance.
As soon as you do not feel comfortable and safe during any activity, you must STOP and inform the guide as soon as possible.
Guiding Services
The guide will:
-
Provide sufficient, safe and maintained equipment as required.
-
Maintain observation of environmental conditions and make appropriate changes to the session.
-
Adhere to the risk assessment at all times.
-
Carry the necessary safety equipment.
-
Do their very best to assist you to the target fish!
The client will:
-
Adhere to instruction from the guide at all times
-
Inform the guide as soon as they feel uncomfortable with the fishing conditions, mark, location or otherwise. There is no shame in saying a walk is too long or steep, that you are tired and had enough, or uneasy about being close to water.
-
Wear appropriate clothing for the conditions, with long sleeves and a hat to prevent exposure. Take plenty layers as conditions in Scotland are very changeable, and a waterproof layer if rain is likely. If no appropriate wear is available, contact guide prior to session and alternatives may be sourced. This includes eye and head protection at all times when fly fishing.
-
Wear appropriate footwear. This includes hiking or boots. If you have studded footwear, this is ideal. If no appropriate wear is available, contact guide prior to session and plans can be changed, or alternatives sourced.
-
Read and sign the risk assessment prior to the session commencing, and adhere to advice and recommendations within it.
Rental Equipment
The guide will:
-
Provide sufficient, safe and maintained equipment as required.
The client will:
-
Take into account risks of the activity they plan to undertake. A risk assessment for guided sessions can be provided on request. The guide takes no responsibility for activities undertaken, and any injuries that occur during the clients activity. Fishing locations will not be recommended, but suggestions of areas and techniques will be made.
-
Not damage equipment intentionally, and return equipment in the same state as received where possible. We recognise that equipment does sometimes break, with breakage of rod eyes, loss of some line due to tangles.
-
Not cut line if tackle is snagged, pull for a break by wrapping the line around a wooden stick or similar, not with pressure on the reel.
-
Attempt to untangle line rather than cut.
-
Inform the guide of any possible damage, and issues that have occurred so equipment can be maintained.
On breakage/damage of equipment:
-
An assessment will be made of extent of damage and whether it is under “wear and tear”. “Wear and tear” covers reasonable superficial damage to equipment. Irrepairable rod or reel breakage will result in the deposit being non-returned. Repairable/replaceable damage will be charged accordingly for the cost of parts and labour.
Deposit & Payment
-
Hire costs will be paid before equipment is received.
-
Hire costs will be flexible depending on the duration and equipment required.
-
A fully refundable deposit will be lodged with the guide before equipment is received. The amount will be relative to the amount of equipment hired.
-
Deposit will be refunded upon inspection of equipment on return (See above for acceptable superficial damages).
